Acceptable Use Policy
Ashland Fiber Network (AFN) is committed to providing reliable, secure, and high-quality fiber internet services. This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines the rules and guidelines for using AFN’s network, systems, products, and services. By using AFN services, you agree to comply with this policy.
AFN reserves the right to update or modify this policy at any time without prior notice.
Prohibited Uses of AFN Services
To protect network performance and customer experience, the following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Violating any local, state, or federal laws
- Sending unsolicited bulk email (spam) or malicious communications
- Impersonating another user or misrepresenting the source of data
- Gaining unauthorized entry to systems, accounts, or networks
- Disrupting or interfering with AFN services or other users
- Attempting to bypass service limitations or avoid billing
- Engaging in denial-of-service (DoS) or network abuse activities
- Reselling services without authorization
Customers are responsible for all activity associated with their account.
Terms of Service and Network Responsibility
AFN customers are expected to use services responsibly to maintain overall network performance and security. If you experience issues or have questions, please contact customer support for assistance.
AFN Direct Fiber Services
- Bandwidth usage may be monitored to ensure consistent service quality
- Usage must comply with all applicable service terms
AFN Internet Services
- Internet service is provided on a best-effort basis
- Service interruptions may occur due to maintenance or unforeseen events
- High-bandwidth usage may impact network performance
- AFN may manage excessive usage by:
- Recommending service upgrades
- Temporarily limiting usage
- Suspending or terminating service if necessary
Static IP Services
- Bandwidth services may not be resold
- Web hosting is limited to single-business use
- Usage is monitored to maintain network integrity
Dynamic IP Services
- IP addresses are assigned dynamically
- Unauthorized use of fixed IP or MAC address manipulation is prohibited
- Personal or household use only (no commercial hosting)
- Running email servers, streaming servers, or similar services is not allowed
- Peer-to-peer (P2P) activity may be restricted
- All usage must comply with applicable laws and regulations
Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Policy
The City of Ashland and AFN comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to protect copyrighted materials and respond to infringement claims.
Filing a DMCA Notice
A valid notice must include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work
- Description of the infringing material
- Contact information of the reporting party
- A statement of good faith belief
- A declaration of accuracy under penalty of perjury
- A physical or electronic signature

AFN will respond promptly to valid DMCA requests in accordance with applicable law.
Repeat Infringers
AFN reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts associated with repeated copyright violations or policy abuse.
